The participatory mural Public Sentences was developed as part of the project Learning Through Space, a collaboration between STOCKHOLM! project, Helsingin aikuisopisto and Subtopia, supported by Kulturfonden för Sverige och Finland.
The installation explores the idea that public space can function not only as infrastructure, but also as a place of informal education and collective learning. Through a series of simple questions placed directly in the urban environment, the mural invites passers-by to pause and reflect on the role of the city as a shared classroom.
Rather than offering answers, the intervention opens a space for dialogue and reflection. It asks what knowledge exists outside institutions, where strangers encounter one another, and how art can shape these moments of connection in everyday life.
By framing the city as a living archive of experiences, encounters and conversations, the project highlights the educational potential of public space and the ways knowledge can be created collectively.
A QR code placed next to the mural leads visitors to an online environment where they can learn more about the project and explore its broader context.
The visual concept and artistic execution of the mural were created by Jonna Bo Lammers (VAAF), an Amsterdam-based artist and designer whose work explores typography, graphic language and spatial interventions in public space. Her practice focuses on creating visual environments that encourage interaction, reflection and participation in everyday urban contexts.
