Prague and Stockholm are separated by just over a thousand kilometres. Far enough for people living in the two cities to never meet. And yet, in similar moments, they often find themselves asking very similar questions, just in different languages.
Are You There?is a pair of installations. One stands in Prague, the other in Stockholm. They look identical, they are separated by an entire continent, and neither of them makes sense on its own. Only together do they form one work.
Step inside and the installation begins to interact with you. Using buttons, you choose which direction the conversation takes. The installation plays you a recorded voice message from someone in Stockholm. At the end, you can record your own response, which then travels in the opposite direction. What someone leaves behind in one city can be heard in the other. A dialogue emerges between strangers who will most likely never meet.
We ask about home. Not an address, but the feeling of belonging somewhere. Where do you feel at home? What do you miss when you are away? Can you belong to two places at once, or does a person have to choose?
The recordings are anonymous and remain exactly as they were recorded, including accents, hesitations and pauses. That is where their power lies. Something a person might never say out loud can suddenly be heard by someone in a completely different country.
Are You There? is the first work created jointly by PRAHO! project and its sister organisation STOCKHOLM! project. For the first time, we are working as one collective across two places at the same time. The installation builds on an archive of more than 30,000 anonymous responses that we have been collecting in Prague since 2021 and in Stockholm since 2025.
The installation does not stay in one place. Following its openings at the Czech and Swedish embassies, it will travel through both cities, appearing in libraries, cultural centres and public spaces. You can find its current location below.
The work also includes a QR code, allowing anyone who cannot visit the installation in person to join the conversation. You can leave your response or message anonymously or under your name.
The work was created as part of the Erasmus+ Art & Design Without Borders (2025–2027)project. Studio PANK collaborated on the final form of the installation, transforming the shared concept and prototype into a coherent spatial solution.
